What is a Generalist in Construction and when do I need one?

I am a generalist. I work on many types of projects. I served as a consultant on a hydroelectric project built inside an earthen dam called the Black Butte dam. There was a controversy over different methods of shoring a large hole that needed to be cut into the dam to install electric generation equipment.

I have also recently inspected 6 leaks into different condominiums in Santa Monica. All six locations had different leak sources and needed different approaches to repair. My report guided each repair project toward the leak source and its repair.

The point is that I am a generalist. I have seen thousands of houses, buildings and even more than one hydroelectric project. Why do you want to hire an entire encyclopedia of construction knowledge to come and look at your one problem, large or small? Because it is a difficult problem. Difficult in one or more of many ways.

  1. Difficult, such a shoring an excavation into an old earthen dam.

  2. Difficult as in a dispute involving the organization of 12 different experts on a new school reconstruction project.

  3. Difficult, such as the complete abandonment and reconstruction of an entire elementary school. (the first school in the history of California to be abandoned and demolished due to construction defects)

  4. Difficult as in contentious, such as a two-unit condominium where the two owners are locked into a very expensive dispute.

  5. Difficult, such as a condominium HOA that has delayed maintenance projects to the extent that the deferred costs are allowing further damage and making the projects more expensive to perform.

  6. Or you just want one fellow to come and evaluate your situation, operating, evaluating, and advising you as to which way to go from here.

When you call Donley Construction Consultants, you get the direct input of the owner of the company. This is a sole proprietorship. I work with a number of other firms to provide precise expertise if needed. Testing, engineering, architecture, remedial construction are all available through recommended firms.

So, give me a call, in a free half-hour consultation, I can usually outline a few steps to get your project moving forward. Even if, or especially if, it is odd in any number of ways.
